Conversational capture is the primary loop

Tell Nourished what you ate the way you’d text a friend: “2 idlis and a coffee, feeling tired.” It parses that into structured food and mood entries. No menus to hunt through, no perfect phrasing required. Photo, barcode, and manual search are fast secondary paths for when you want them.

  • Free-text logging runs on a cheap model tier, unlimited and free.
  • Photo scan for when a picture is faster than words (metered, generous quota).
  • Barcode for packaged food, manual search for everything else, both unlimited.

Editable estimates with visible confidence

The AI never hands you a final answer. It returns a MealDraft: a list of line items, each with a confidence level. Low-confidence items are flagged so you know exactly what to double-check. Adjust a portion and the calories recompute on-device, instantly, with zero AI cost.

  • Per-item confidence: uncertainty is shown, not buried in one number.
  • Quick portions, including regional ones: katori, roti, idli, small thali.
  • Editing is always free and never triggers a network or AI call.

Accuracy

Regional food intelligence

Western trackers can’t reliably identify dal-chawal, a dosa, or a thali portion. Nourished reconciles against regional food databases (INDB / IFCT, alongside USDA and Open Food Facts) so your everyday meals are recognized, not approximated. This is the hardest thing to copy, and the thing we care about most.

  • South-Asian dishes and portions modeled as first-class.
  • Your corrections teach it: log “dal” once your way, and it remembers.
  • USDA FoodData Central + Open Food Facts for everything else.

Mood is a first-class entry, logged inline with your meals in a single daily journal. Over time, Nourished surfaces the patterns (how meal timing tracks your sleep, which lunches drain your afternoon) so the app answers the question every tracker ignores: why do I feel like this?
